CHRONOS White Paper
This white paper is an official document that comprehensively presents the scientific goals, technical design, international collaboration framework, and long-term development plan of
Cryogenic sub-Hz cROss torsion-bar detector with quantum NOn-demolition Speed meter (CHRONOS).
CHRONOS is a next-generation interferometer project aiming at the detection of gravitational waves in the sub-Hz frequency band, particularly targeting the stochastic gravitational-wave background.
By integrating cryogenic torsion-bar technology with quantum non-demolition (QND) speed-meter interferometry, CHRONOS seeks to achieve low-frequency sensitivity beyond that of conventional position-meter interferometers.
This document includes:
- Scientific background and the significance of stochastic gravitational-wave observations
- Detector concept and optical configuration
- Quantum-noise reduction strategies and mirror-coating development
- Calibration methods and systematic-error evaluation
- Data analysis strategies (CBC and stochastic background searches)
- International collaboration structure and development roadmap
We invite researchers, students, and collaborators to use this document as a foundational reference for understanding the scientific vision and technical strategy of the CHRONOS project.
